đ Merry Christmas everyone. You now have something to read in between commercials and talking to relatives about when I was kid… and like clockwork Adidas has a sale like I mention in the conclusion đ
If you liked the Harden V3 but didnât like the plain jane look or if you really enjoyed Beat Street and Breakin, Niqueâs old Avias or Dream’s Etonics, the Marquee Boost might be for you. If you want a shoe thatâs flat out fun and a great on court, well hereâs your shoe too.. or you can pick from the Harden V3 and Tmac Millennium as well since they all perform similarly and very well on court. But it’s not often I see a shoe that speaks to me like the Marquee Boost. What can I say, I â¤ď¸ the 80’s.
Pros: traction, cushioning, fit, support and stability, containment
Cons: retro styling isnât for everyone ? Runs long
Best for: anyone or 80âs kids
Sizing: half size down to a full size these run long
Buying advice: wait as always, these are everywhere collecting dust. $100 or less is fair, low around 50-60. Make sure to buy the right size these run long
DID I MENTION THEY RUN LONG?
Weight
17 ounces which is similar to the Harden V2 and a lot of other Adidas hoops shoes. If they didn’t run so long maybe they would have shaved a half ounce.
Traction
I took these out on the worst combo floor again..a pergo middle school floor where assemblies happen daily. Pergo doesnât absorb anything so all the dirt from the day just sits on top. The Marquee started off needing some wiping but got better as the three hour session wore on. Even with some dust stuck on the outsole I didnât have to wipe much at all.
The pattern is very similar to the Harden and Tmac and doesnât feature any dumb story telling elements. It just works. I really love how Adidas has been making the forefoot lateral area run perpendicular to the rest of the shoe. It really helps slow the slide on lateral movements. Not groundbreaking but shoe companies have forgotten the basics as of late as getting the basics right is the key to my heart. That and food..
Well done Adidas!
Cushioning
Love the Harden V3 set up? Well I think Adidas slapped almost the exact same set up on these. Not quite as thick feeling as the Millennium, these feel just like the a slightly thicker Harden V3 to me and are just smooth from heel to toe. Hard to get a good measurement but I’d say the Marquee is about 2mm thicker in the heel.
Like the Mac These use a foam strobel as well while the Harden uses a cloth strobel.
And like the Mac, Boost sits around the shoe as the foot sits below the top line a few millimeters.
Very comfortable out of the box and on court. No bottoming out like the Crazy Explosive 2016.
Well done Adidas!
Fit
I bought my regular size 11 and could have sworn it was a 11.5 or twelve. I had over a thumb of extra space at the toe. Width wide they fit fine but that extra length isnât my preferred length so I went down to 10.5 and was much happier.
No movement inside the shoe no heel slip when I laced to the top, no deadspace in the toe box.
Some people will not like all the laces since this is the antithesis of the CLB minimal lacing set up. These really pull your ankle and foot back in the shoe so if you donât like that feeling, get the low. I’m a mid guy and I really like how these give me a one to one fit.
Well done Adidas? Half size down people, just remember that.
Materials
Iâve said this before but adidas has gotten really good at premiumizing mesh (see dames, harden v2). I didnât read the marketing descriptions until yesterday and I thought the toe box was prime knit (not that it matters). The shoe is primarily mesh and fuse (does that make it forged mesh Adidas?) but they put the fuse in high wear areas and made it look like it was there for stylistic reasons. Check out that white synthetic leather! That material really adds some performance!! Not
There is no popping (and locking) or hot spots all the thicker areas don’t require breakin (get it?) at all.
Premiumizing, covfefe, huuuuuge: all to be added to Webster’s dictionary soon. Worst case Wikipedia. Might be in there already đ¤ˇđťââď¸
Support and stability
These might feel too restrictive if you just put them on in store but once you play in them, they soften up and conform around your ankle and movements.
Usually I can just fold the entire heel collar but there is a little extra stiffness (that’s what she said) around the Achilles that adds just a little more support kinda like the HD16
Midfoot support is good as it features the same shank as the Harden V3
Adidas extended the Boost pretty wide and it adds support so flat footers like myself don’t have extra flab hanging off the sides
Stability is excellent as well with a very wide outsole, wider than the Harden V3 in fact.
Overall no issues at all here.
Well done Adidas!
Containment
No issues here. Raised midsole really keeps your foot in place on hard cuts. Did I design this shoe?
Conclusion
If the Beard was the Beard balling in the 80s this would be his sig shoe. The Marquee Boost plays almost exactly the same as the Harden except itâs a high/mid with different styling. If you buy a BMW and swap out the exterior of the car, that car will still feel like a BMW since the actual guts of the car haven’t changed. The same thing applies here; the V3 was already a great shoe except for a little heel slip for me but with the Marquee, I get the almost the exact same cushioning, similar traction but with a whole new upper look that actually improved the fit for me. This is one of those shoes that I forget Iâm wearing when Iâm court but at the same time I get the look good feel good effect and at the same time Iâm getting everything I could want out of a shoe. Is this SOY? No not soy sauce you racists, is this the Shoe Of the Year? It might just be, just let me make my mind up after the Curry 6 (let’s hope I can get them tomorrow so I can finish my 2018 Review).
Should you buy these today? These are sitting everywhere so wait another month or so and we should start seeing discounts because the last thing retailers want is inventory sitting on their shelves. I expect these to drop to the $110-99 range plus coupons very soon so Iâll probably stock up when they get to the $50-60 range. Any other person who uses retail as their basis for value is a fool. At $130 retail, this is ten bucks less than the Harden but I got these with the 30% off sale so they come out to $92. Adidas sales are nuts these days and very frequent so if you like bang for your buck, Adidas is where itâs at. 90% sure we see another Adidas sale after Christmas or the New Year. Nothing makes you perform better than extra cash in your wallet. #crazycheapasians
Retro styling isn’t for everyone so that’s great for me. Pretty sure I’ll the only one on the court wearing them and that’s part of the fun of sneakers isn’t it? Getting to express yourself without saying a word? I like doing it with my game personally but sometimes a shoe it just the right fit from all aspects and the Marquee is one of those shoes for me. Understated yet unique and sexy AF (just like me).
I really thought Nike was going to earn most of my business this year (yes earned bc I buy my own sht) but Adidas really came on strong this year even if their marketing campaign was nonexistent. Hey Adidas, can I please run the b-ball division ? UA? Nike? ? No takers ? Oh well.
First team rating, well done Adidas!
Did you try the low bro? (see what i did there?) Another review said the lows fit TTS and you say the mids are long so now i’m skeptical if i should go TTS on the low as i’m planning to cop

The Lows fit is different from the mids for some odd reason. They are way more snug. I would go true to size for the lows.

As far as adidas sizing goes, you should probably go with your UK size.
US brands base their sizing on the US system (duh). US 11 in Nike/UA shoes would translate to UK 10 / EU 45, which is correct by how the sizing systems are defined.
Brands from Europe generally have pretty weird shoe lasts that are made by various standards. Adidas’ system is based on UK sizing, and the translation to US sizing is just wrong. UK 10 in adidas shoes would be US 10.5 / EU 44 2/3. This is why a lot of adidas shoes run a half size long if you buy them by the US size. Well they really are a half size longer. If you happen to find a pair of adidas shoes that fit you perfectly length wise by the US size, it means it’s actually a bit shorter than what it should have been.
On a side note, Chinese brands have even more fucked up sizing problems. You should usually go with your true EU size when purchasing Chinese shoes, but recent Li-Ning and Peak shoes are based on the US sizing system so that their EU sizes are kinda messed up.

Run Short or long they are all over the place for me. Iâd say I have to go 50/50 with b-ball shoes tts vs half a size down and itâs changed over time as well. Tennis shoes tts most of the time w adidas sometimes half up. Running shoes tts to full size. Yea Iâm still not going to mess w Chinese brands . One a year seems to be my limit lol

Next time when you decide to try out some Chinese kicks, I would suggest you to skip Li-Ning and Peak shoes all together. They are having some management staff issues at the moment, and the products they put out are very inconsistent. No doubt there are some hidden gems, but not worth the risk of getting something really mediocre like YuShuai 11 or complete trash like YuShuai 12 which CJ has been wearing this season.
Based on my reading of your articles, I think you’ll really enjoy Anta’s A-shock midsole material. IMO it’s on a par with Bounce and it’s pretty consistent. The A-shock 1 low (KT2 outdoor low) was a shoe that everyone seemed to love including TGRR. Anta has been doing great jobs since they signed Robbie Fuller. I’m still not a fan of the KT line tho.

+Kupunao: Is the a-shock foam of Anta as durable as adidas boost or bounce? The foam used in the Li Ning WOW 6 was also observed by other reviewers to be similar to boost but I’m not sure if it is durable also..
LikeLike
Yes, very durable. Probably a similar compound to Bounce.
WoW 6’s forefoot cushion (Drive Foam) is a TPU material made by BASF, the company that created boost. Boost is also made of TPU pellets. Generally any PU-based cushion is pretty durable.

+Kupunao: What about the P-motive foam of Peak which was used in the DH3.. Can that last for years if I play on it for 3 hours, 3x a week?
LikeLike
P-motive is pretty durable, but no shoes on this earth can last for years when you play 3 hours a time 3 times a week… You’d have other things to worry about before the midsole material starts to flatten out.
Always have at least 2 pairs of shoes in your rotation, never wear the same shoes two times in a row to give their materials more time to rest.
Chinese students usually play in the same pair of shoes on outdoor courts until the shoes fall apart, which is why Chinese companies design most of their products with durability as the No. 1 concern.
If you can only purchase one pair of bball shoes, I’d suggest you to get something with a full PU midsole. PU is just more durable than any EVA + rubber compound. Adidas’ Boost and PUMA’s NRGY + IGNITE hybrid would be suitable.

and by PU i mean anything PU/TPU/ETPU in general
but those hard as rock early air jordan PU wouldn’t be a good idea

+Kupunao: Wow bro, appreciate the very detailed info you just gave. Im from the Philippines and here we also play in our shoes until they fall apart. Most basketball courts here are made of concrete so impact protection and outsole durability are my main concerns….. Do you think the outsole of the Peak DH3 will last outdoors?
LikeLiked by 1 person
+Kupunao: I was able to play on the Peak DH2 which had the Peak R-Pad on the forefoot. It was supposed to be a softer foam but it still felt a bit firm for me when running and jumping on concrete ground… Indoors on wooden floors, I guess it would be much better. Now the Peak DH3 when I saw the pictures: wow… The midsole looks really thick and those who tried it said it felt really soft on foot… I think that mushy and thick foams may be too much when used on wooden floors but on concrete, they would be perfect for absorbing impact… My theory is that wooden floors have some give when running or jumping and so mushy foams reduce a sense of responsiveness.. I’ve been playing on my D Rose 6 on concrete and I never felt slowed down and I’m actually wanting still more mushiness on the forefoot (I guess the forefoot boost has bottomed out a bit).. I’m really intrigued with the Peak DH3.. Even though it has a thick slab of foam, I guess responsiveness would still be fine on hard concrete?
LikeLike
It should be fine on concrete from both responsiveness and outsole durability standpoints. Peak designed their shoes with outdoor use in mind. If you find the cushioning to be on the mushier side, you can simply replace the insole with a basic EVA one and then you’d be fine. Peak uses a very thick and soft PU insole in their top tier shoes. Also, try to get a colorway with synthetic upper if you are worried about upper durability.
The DH2 was just a pretty bad shoe, not comparable to the DH3 IMO.

The impact protection is the best ive ever experienced, and i think the marquee, harden 3, and tmac are gonna be the best boost ball shoes cuz the strobel boards are softer.
I hear good things about exposed max zoom cushioning as well in the lebrons and kds, but ive never tried those yet(ill get the lebron 16s when they hit outlets). I can recommend the boost shoes, tho.

I tried this on in a store. It instantly just felt right, like the crazy explosive did, just with better feeling boost and a more durable outsole. I think the foam strobel board lets the boost feel come through better than the stiff strobels they’ve used in past bball shoes. I’ll definitely be picking this up in the future.

I couldnât imagine going any lower in the forefoot than what I currently am now after playing in the Vol 2 for a month now….

In guessing Adidas can change the density/ bounce /feel of boost depending how many pellets they pack in and what kind of strobel they use . The v2 is denser feeling and firmer than the v1/3. I never had to re-tie the shoe. The Boost was amazing. I have some Rose Boost sneakers and I felt the Marquee Boost out-shined those in terms of cushion. The traction was very good. Granted, I play on a pretty clean floor. I wiped the sole every once in a while but that traction was really, really good on that clean floor. The fit was very god for me. I did buy a size down. I don’t even know what my real size is any longer. I have to try on every shoe from every brand because the sizing is different every time. If the Marquee Boost gets cheaper in price, I will probably buy another pair for future use.

I canât find anyone commenting on the solid rubber versions. One thing that does concern me is that the solid rubber herringbone patterns adidas has been putting on shoes like the nxt levels and pro bounce madness 2019 have been downright terrible for some reason. Usually solid is more durable and better on dust, two huge factors for me when determining whether to buy, the solid rubber marquee looks like more of the same.
