Adidas Crazylight Boost 2016 Review
I was bored and went to the mall to see if anything interesting was out or on sale and low and behold, these were out at Finishline. So thank you Finishline, I hate your guts as a company but thanks for breaking the rules and selling these two weeks early. Full review will be out hopefully late next week to help those who can’t try on.
Sizing: I bought my normal 11 and 10.5 so I’m trying to decide which to go with which has been an issue with Adidas for me since can go either way. I am leaning towards my TTS 11 even though there is a little extra length. Sizing is similar to Lillard 2, Rose 6 so get what you got in those is my opinion.
Weight
Not so light anymore and actually pretty chunky for a low. Not a big deal to me though
Traction
Should be awesome. Continental rubber just like the Lillard 2 used but with a more traditional beastly looking pattern. So far so great
Cushioning
Boost changes everything and full length Boost obliterates everything. Feels and looks like more Boost in the forefoot than the Rose 6. Speaking of D Rose, I hope he plays great as Knick. You try coming back from knee surgery when speed and shiftiness is your strength and let me know how it goes.
Materials
This is the jacquard upper and feels great. Very similar feel to the Lillard 2 upper. Very soft and conforming with no weird flex points or hotspots.
Strands of TPU for high wear areas. Not sure how long it will last indoors and definitely won’t last outdoors.
Fit
No longer a minimal shoe, the CLB16 is padded well. Not Rose 6 padded but just right. The tongue is padded just right so no lace pressure. Cat’s tongue is back but not as “sticky” as in the Rose 6
*added pic 6/27. There is a full length sleeve so the lace straps don’t rub*
The “roll cage” . Finally a company willing to fix the main problem I have with wovens and knits. Thank you Adidas!
Support and stability
Feels good so far as I see no major issues or tippiness
I’m digging the assymetrical heel counter.
The shank is one of the keys to keeping the Boost stable
I’ve only had one workout session in these but I have high hopes thus far. I hope to get a review done before the July 2 release date!

This shoe is f*cking Majestic. Two Weartesters Hall of Fame like its Kobe and Shaq, and for me in Canada it’ll retail for $160. Its a victory of races for Adidas. Too long to watch? its the ultimate lowtop shoe, or Kobe 4/5 on roids. beautiful. sadly it isn’t super light no mo, a feature that showed much how good it was.
And bro…you related to Night wing or something? When he does a review you drop a first impression.

No relation I picked mine up at Finishline last week and posted my impressions a few days ago. My review will be done before the end of the week.

Hey Schwollo, how would you rate vs Kobe Xs? Thanks!

A little premature since not many hours yet but will most likely be better than Kobe X. Cushioning is Awesome

Glad to see these give you the lateral support that you’ve always wanted in a soft upper!
Premature knee-jerk reaction, these or KD 9?

These .. Fit my game better but will know better in a few more games

Yep about time someone did!!

So if I’m looking at it correctly the shoe weighs 1 pound or 16 ounces? I usually work with grams on a digital scale being from Australia.
LikeLike
Yes one pound or 16 ounces me for reference the Curry two is 14 oz and the KD 9 is 13.5

Yeah wow that’s a little heavy but if the shoe plays fast then that’s ok

So far so good

I’m totally going to Finishline to see if they’re out near me. Been waiting for these and now that I hear the Hyperdunk 2016 Elite is gonna be 200, this will be my upcoming season’s shoes. Thanks for the initial review! Would you say it’s lower or higher than the Kobe XI?
LikeLike
It sits higher off the ground than the Kobe xi and the cut is slightly higher but still a true low

Really good to hear that you’re gonna enjoy this soft upper given the improvement on lateral movements. Any chance you’re gonna pick up the Rose 7 or CrazyExplosives? I was planning to hunt for some Rose 6’s on discount but after seeing the leaked Rose 7 pics, all dat Boost (and the nice upper) is making me think twice lol
LikeLike
Rose 7 for sure crazy explosive maybe. Yep nice to see a company fix this issue and not put aesthetics first .

Coming from some achilles problems, I am a 6.3″ forward between the KD9 and the CL2016. What would you recommend since you are one of the few who tried both, and I need to preorder for the upcoming season?
LikeLike
Jury is still out but I can say cushioning is nearly as good or as good as KD 9. Traction is better on dusty floors. It is a more substantial shoe with better/firmer support thus far though. So Pretty sure clb will win btwn the two
LikeLike
Well, if you want achilles protection you need the following: stable base, excellent lock down, and a strong as hell heel counter. This will to the best to ensure your achilles doesn’t take too much stress. Cushion I’m not so sure about, but more is probably better so long as it doesn’t make the shoe tippy. Between the two here sounds like CLB.. however, maybe you want to look into something like the LeBron soldier 10.

I agree ..let you know about the soldier 10 when they get here next week .

How does the boost cushion compare to the Rose 6 besides slightly more in the forefoot? Same density? Thanks, really enjoy your reviews!

Same density but the full length boost makes it feel like there is more throughout . Thanks for reading !

This look and sound great. Thanks for getting us some information on these early. Really want a pair now, but none of my local shops has released them early. Guess I need to wait until next weekend.
Wonder how adidas feels about calling these crazy lights when they are significantly heavier than earlier models of the CL.

Lol yep I was wondering the same thing . Guess they are sticking with the name since people are familiar with it

Ive heard that some colorways doesnt have the continental rubber sole. Is there a difference? How is the fit? Any heel slips? And lastly. is the traction grooves durable?
LikeLike
Don’t know mine have continental rubber. Fit is excellent . Heel slip went away after a few wearings. Sizing true to size for wide footers go down half size for narrow or regular imo. Traction might be durable outdoors haven’t owned long enough to know

How does the cushion on forefoot feel like? Rose 5 or rose 6?

It’s thicker but feels somewhat similar to Rose 6.

It sounds like a very promising basketball shoe. I will wait patiently for you final verdict. I am so jealous of you!

These just got the hall of fame badge for traction and cushion from nightwing. He said the traction was as good as the kobe 9’s. im so excited now lol.
LikeLike
Sweet yea I concur on those two . Not so sure about the sizing or heel fit personally

I see. Well they’re not out yet, but I’m probably gonna get them over the KD 9’s. Looking forward to your review too. Nightwing also gave a hall of fame to both traction and cushion to the Lebron Soldier 9’s, but my friend who had them was slipping a bit and said the traction wasn’t that good. Also, nvm, he said that the traction was the best he’s had since the kobe 9, but never said they were as good, so guess I gotta wait for your review too lol.

I wouldn’t give a hof badge to the soldier ix for either of those lol. It’s good but not hof material. Maybe I’m just extra picky

Nightwing2303 said the cushion was firm and not like the rose 6. What you think

I’ll have to switch back and forth and let you know. I’ll address it in my full review. If it is firmer is isn’t by much . Feels fantastic

kd9 vs cl ? cushion vise!

Been debating this internally this past week. I like the zoom based on feel alone (slightly) but I like how boost was implemented to keep it more stable. Can’t go wrong either way

Do you have narrow feet? Nightwing went true to size and he said he got no heel slips. I have narrow feet and im not sure about the sizing. We probably wont be having these here in saudi arabia so i wanna make sure about the size. I have size 10 kobe mentality which is alittle small for me. Size 10 hyperrev15 that is just right. I think with lillards i have to go size 9.5.. right? And with these clb2016 i dont know if i should get 9.5 or 10. Im copping lillard 2s and these asap.

Hope you could help me. ✌✌✌ Waiting for your review btw

I have wide feet so I’m staying true to size. Been switching between true to size and half size down and I can fit the half size down with some space still in the toe but it’s a little narrow but not painful or anything, I just prefer a wider base. There is a little extra length in the toe box so you should be ok half size down. Same goes with the Lillard 2 for you. I have a 10.5 and an 11 in Lillard 2 and I can fit both. More space and length in the clb 16 than the Lillard 2 due to toe box shape. Hope that helps!

I just tried on my Hyperrev 15 to compare the toe box lengths and my sz 11 (TTS) of the HR15 is the same as the Crazylight boost16 in 10.5′

Wow thanks bro! +1 for the effort! I guess im going 9.5 with lillards and clb16 since my hyperrevs is a 10. based on what you said they have simillar sizing (lillard and clb). *Hoping the heel slips is gone* really looking forward to these 2 pairs. Again. Thanks alot!

Are these better than the D Lillard 2 as far as traction? I know you can’t say for sure yet, but what is your initial thoughts? Do you agree (with nightwing2303) that these are the best traction in a basketball shoe in the past 2-3 years? How about the boost? Are these low or mid tops – similar to the d lillard 2?
LikeLike
Curry two traction is just as good so yes better than the Lillard 2
Boost is fantastic
These are lows . Lillard 2 is a about 1 cm higher

Have you experienced any discomfort from the lacing system? Nightwing mentioned the “flywire” rubbed his toes. I think he also said theres no material between the “flywire” cables and your feet.

Maybe his Primeknit version didn’t but the retail version has a full length sleeve that runs from the tongue down to the toe box so no rubbing

I have no issues playing in lows as long as my heel doesn’t slip. Some lows are made better than others though. Still working on heel slip with these .

My white pair cam in and I can’t wait to play in them. I actually feel more of a smoother transition in these than the rose 6 and the boost is more enhanced without the stable frame. Not sure about slippage yet but I think it’s dependent on how tight you tie the last two loop laces. Very happy so far.

Yep full length boost is definitely smoother feeling. Amazon prime is awesome huh? Lol
I have heel slip down to a minimum now but still not 100%

Not only that but the boost is cut to have an arch. I really like that part of the shoe. I too feel minor slippage but I double up on socks when I play and that might help. We shall see!

Could you compare courtfeel/height off ground to the Clutchfit Drives? I really want to try these but court feel/responsiveness is a pretty big factor to me.
LikeLike
They sit higher off the ground than the CFD however the court feel is still good because the boost isn’t overly soft in the forefoot.
LikeLike
Thanks man. I really appreciate how responsive you are to your readers. I know you probably haven’t finished testing them yet, but which sits higher off the court: KD9 or CLB16? How about for court feel?
LikeLike
Clb16 sits a little higher . Clb feels firmer in the forefoot than the kd9 . Adidas made that roll
Cage on the outside to help keep it from over compressing and it works. Thanks for reading, why bother writing if you can’t write a few extra lines to answer direct questions ?
