Never forget.. but check out that score! That’s a good half nowadays. #nodefenseallowedtoday
I was very excited to see Adidas finally update the Tmac line as I have always been a fan of the Tmac 2 even if it didn’t really do anything really well aside from look cool (I wrote a review of it before I sold them so maybe I’ll publish it soon). Tmac had amazing talent but we never really got to see his true potential with all his injuries. Thankfully, we can still pretend to score 13 points in 35 seconds with the Tmac Millennium.
Pros: traction, cushioning, fit, support and stability, containment
Cons: shoe needs a few hours break in, fit could be improved with more padding
Best for: anyone
Sizing: half size down
Buying advice: The launch colorway seems to be selling well but it came out when 30% off sales were going. $120 or less is fair, lows around $60-75. Yes I hopped on that 30% sale
Weight
15.5 ounces which is about 1.5-2 ounces heavier than a typical low. No weight issues for me per usual but some people want featherlight shoes.
TractionI had really really high hopes for these and although they didn’t quite meet my expectations, they still performed very well overall. I think I expected Rose 7 but got more of a CLB16 experience which is also very good.
The smaller grooves ala Harden V3 are very flexible and soft and do a great job brushing dirt. The thicker grooves are pretty stiff and do a good job overall (think Clutchfit Curry 1). More small grooves would have been amazing (see my review on the Marquee Boost coming soon)
Very similar in idea and feel to the Harden V3 but with a few thicker grooves that run perpendicular to the tiny herringbone for lateral movement.
These worked great on everything but the dirtiest of floors and some wiping was need to stick and stop but nothing bad. I saw some poor guy wearing Lebron XV’s slipping and sliding all night. I should have told him to visit my page 😂
Overall, these aren’t Curry 2, Kobe IX, Rose 7 level but better than most. Well done Adidas!
Cushioning
I am horrible at Operation as you can see from my “straight” line. This is where the Boost underfoot actually sits. Not sure if I like this trend by Adidas but I guess the Boost helps contain the foot
If you liked the CLB16/18, Harden V1/V3, you’ll like these. Very similar in feel to the CLB but a little thicker in the heel. It has more spring in the heel than the CLB and Harden without feeling like a creampuff. As always Boost heel to toe feels great with no lag in the forefoot since it isn’t thinned out (not crazy explosive thin) and it just feels right. Adidas also used a foam strobel so you can really feel that Boost even if you push with your hands. Does it give any energy return? No not really but that springiness just adds a lot of fun to the shoe.
Well done Adidas!
Fit
Adidas sizing is still all over the place but the best bet is usually half a size down and half a size down is right for everyone on the Millennium. I still had a little more than a finger width of space at the toe half a size down. Some people could probably go a full size down if they wanted to.
Adidas’s lows are often hit or miss but the TMM is a high low so I had no heel slip issues.
You can see how much higher and back the Tmac top eyelets sits vs the stock CLB. My extra eyelets sit a little further back
The ankle collar is very low on padding and uses pillows similar to what we’ve seen on some other brands in the past. I think this might be the first time I’ve seen Adidas utilize this.
Actually the entire shoe is pretty much devoid of any extra padding so I think that gives the shoe a little bit of an “empty” feeling that doesn’t allow the shoe to give a huggy feely fit and feels kind of like the first few Hyperdunks and fuse uppers.
I think a little more padding would have made the fit just that much better since the upper is a fairly stiff synthetic leather. It fits well overall after some break in but I think another layer of padding would have made it feel better overall. Speaking of materials…
Materials
If you like your materials soft and flexible out of the box, you will not like this uppper but if you actually play in them awhile, they will break in and conform around your foot. Creases are a good thing with leather and synthetics so don’t be afraid to dust them up a bit. However, they do not get pillowy soft since it isn’t made of mesh or knit. I don’t mind the upper at all as it reminds me of the old Tmac upper but I know lots of people equate soft comfort with performance or value.
Support and stability
A supportive low. What the? Not sure what the extra wing is for on the heel. May have to cut it off
These are a little higher than a lot of lows today and they have some strength and support around the ankle thanks to the stiffer upper. I Consider them a 3/4 cut, Nike might call them a mid. 🤷🏻♂️
Midfoot support is solid and is pretty stiff around the midfoot . Pretty sure it has a shank because it doesn’t bend much around the midfoot. Unfortunately I can’t see through rubber
Stability is also very good and is similar to what you find on the CLB since it isn’t caged in the heel. A little cage action wouldn’t hurt here but I had no issues. There is no forefoot outrigger but the outsole is pretty wide overall.
Containment
Synthetic, a shell toe and a huge footstay? Zero issues here
Conclusion
Yep I’m cramming in a bunch of reviews these last few weeks of 2018 and I’m glad I jumped on these. It’s like the Tmac 2, CLB16 and Harden V3 had a baby just for me. Overall I felt these play most similar to the CLB16 but with a a stiffer thicker upper which I actually like. I really enjoy playing in this shoe because it does everything well and I especially love the cushioning set up, traction and as shallow as this sounds, its looks. I do wish there was more padding inside the shoe but beggars can’t be choosers..well technically we can since we can choose to buy something else..but you get the point.
I find most Adidas Boosts to pretty much play similarly lately especially when they have the same cushioning set up model to model but they just have different looking uppers that may or may not fit the wearer better. If you like the CLB or your Hardens, there really isn’t a big reason to switch unless you love Tmac or want a little more heel cushioning.
Should you buy these today at retail?
Heck no, Adidas is having a fire sale almost monthly while colorways sit. I got 30% off the week these were released. I expect the other colorways to sit and hit clearance eventually since $160 is more than most Harden colorways and is the same price as Harden MiAdidas . By the way black Boost Hardens cost the same as MiAdidas Hardens but you can get black Boost on the MiAdidas for the same price. Adidas is so dumb sometimes I don’t know how they are an actual company sometimes.
Overall, the Millennium is a great update to the TMac. It fixed a lot of the flaws I had with the Tmac 2 while paying homage to a great player with proper retro styling. First team rating on the Tmac Millennium. Well done Adidas!
Best current shoe on the market you’d say?

Marquee Boost = CLB16 with no heel slip hopefully? I played the hell out of my CLB16s in spite of the heel slip.

I think it plays like the harden v3 with another more boost and a different upper. . So I guess it kinda does play like the CLB since the V3 plays more like the v1 and v1 is kinda similar to the CLB16. Gahah

Is there any padding in the toe box? Shell toe shoes always give my poor big toes crazy pain.
That heel tower looks like it’s planning to attack your achilles tendon. Harden 3 has the same thing and I don’t know what adidas is doing with this trend. Maybe it’s their solution to lowtops’ heel slip issues?
Tracy had some great looking sig shoes back then. I think every TMAC shoe looks pretty cool except the 6.
I wish adidas embedded the midsole within the upper, like how all the TMACs except the 6 did. I remember it was the popular thing to hide your midsole because it made the whole shoe sleeker, and the upper would act as a midsole cage to enhance stability.

No padding in the toe just a continuation of the sock layer inside the shoe. . Heel tower isn’t as silly looking as the Harden since the cut is higher but it doesn’t do anything for heel slip imo, it all comes from around the Achilles.
Agreed about the tmac line, although I didn’t love the 3 or 4. Adidas can’t hide the midsole set since gotta push the Boost aspect!

I just saw on the adidas US site, they changed that black boost harden 3’s price to 140 usd.
I really don’t know what adidas is doing. A group of 5th graders can probably manage the company better;

Thanks for another great review Schwollo. These sound like a shoe I’ll enjoy since I really like the V3s and CLBs. I just ordered two pairs of the mi adidas V3s, so I’m good for a bit on the adidas shoe front. I’ll wait until these get down to to the $90-100 range in a fun colorway. Maybe I’ll get lucky and the ASG colorway will hit those prices.
Looking forward to your review on the Marquee Boost. I’ve been thinking about trying out the lows if the performance is on point. I’m not really digging the 80s retro style, but I can grudgingly overlook that if they are great on court. LOL
Any plans to try out the n3xt l3v3ls? I’m only intrigued by the cushioning – the high cut, no laces, lifestyle look is a major pass for me. If the lightning strike foam is nice blend of Bounce (lighterweight and court feel) and Boost (deep cushioning and rebound), then I will be excited for adidas to try it out on a more traditional hoop shoe.
Happy holidays!

Nice the V3 is great esp on sale. I find the marquee Boost very similar to the V3 with just a little more boost in the heel. I love the styling myself haha
Not sure about the Next level . Cushioning is the only thing that interests me as well the laceless aspect not so much lol . Different foams feel different but they aren’t necessarily any better from my experience.

what order do you like the Vol 3, Marquee and T Mac? I’m think about ordering one, but I’m not sure which one to get? I like impact protection, lockdown and decent traction. Especially in the forefoot. If it’s too low to the ground, it flares up my patella tendinitis.
LikeLike
I think tmac has the most cushioning overall. The marquee has the best fit as a mid but you have to go down half a size at least. All three have great traction so that’s almost a toss up.

Hey man, can I ask if this tmac millenium has the same boost thickness in the forefoot area as the Rose 6? Additionally, can I ask if the Rose 6 has the same level of impact protection in forefoot boost as the Harden Volume 2? Or would you say that since adidas packed more boost pellets in the forefoot of the Harden Volume 2, then it has more impact protection and is less prone to bottoming out than the Rose 6 even though it is not as plush?
LikeLike
I’ll check on the thickness for you. harden v2 feels firmer all around due the packed pellets . Can’t say either the rose or v2 has more impact protection bc I haven’t had issues with either. Rose 6 is fluffier feeling overall while the harden has more court feel. I prefer the latter

Thanks mate.. It seems to me like the T Mac Millenium is the first boost hoop shoe Adidas made that has features that can really last outdoors–durable synthetic upper, full-length boost, decent outsole… I’m able to use my Rose 6 outdoors but the thin grooves won’t last I’m sure.. Does it also make you wonder why adidas is taking so long to develop a perfect outdoor hoop shoe that has boost? I mean how hard is it man? They can just take the thick outsole from their barricade line, get a thick slab of boost, and combine these with a durable synthetic. I mean they have the best cushioning that will greatly benefit outdoor hoopers and being that most hoopers in China play outdoors, they can have one hell of a huge market even if it doesn’t sell stateside..

You’re right the Millennium would be a great outdoor shoe.
The shell toe and outsole would keep up outdoors even with lots of scuffing.
Nobody wants to make an outdoor shoe anymore bc everyone wants what the pros are wearing. doesn’t makes sense to make a shoe that they have to make for only a few ppl.

Unrelated to this review, but did you ever get a chance to play in the Hyperdunk X and/or Adidas Pro Bounce?

I have played in both just didn’t have time to write anything up. Both are great. HdX is excellent all around. Zoom feels like zoom, the foam is softer than the Kyrie 5 but not as soft as the 4. Softer than the hd16 as well. Fits tts good traction soft materials. I’d give it a first team.
Same with probounce. Does everything well and is already on clearance. Bounce feels like bounce . Runs a little bit but you can go tts or half size down depending on pref.

Just ordered these for 40% off on Adidas, can’t wait to try them out. I remember wanting a pair of TMac 2s so bad back when I was younger, but I couldn’t afford them, so I’m pretty hyped to finally be able to grab a pair of these on discount AND actually get some decent cushioning

lol their boxing week sale is 40% off a select list of items supposedly, and new releases are usually excluded from discounts and coupons anyway, but they forgot to add that exclusion on these even though they just dropped on the Canadian site this week, and the 40% off applied to the shoes even though they weren’t even on the list, so props to whoever does their site lmao

Just played in mines for the first time last night. Ordered .5 down (9.5 instead of my regular 10) and they are still boats. I mean, they are HUGE. I didn’t experience a shoe this f•••ed up on the sizing front since the Rose 8. I asked for every size 11 guy on the gym to try them and they all said the fit was perfect. So, I had size 11 guys wearing a size 9.5 sneaker. Great job adidas! UNREAL. Besides that debacle, materials are actually pretty nice. Mine wasn’t stiff at all out of the box (and the toe box is made of really nice fake leather, a pleasant surprise). Boost is reminiscent of the Rose 6 (a little too mushy for me but will be handy for 2nd nights of back to backs). Overall a really nice shoe. Let’s see if can return it for a smaller one so I can properly enjoy them.

Therein lies the main problem with adidas as well all know. I was good half a size down but I could see the issue.

How would you compare the tmac with harden v2? Been suffering from some pretty bad under foot pain, not sure if it’s plantar fasciitis… Wore the V2 for a 2 hr session tonight and the thick boost mid some really helped a ton. Been thinking of copping the tmac in the brush colorway and want to know how these 2 compare. I assume cushioning would be about the same but fit and comfort should be better on the V2 given its knit upper vs tmacs fake leather?
LikeLike
Mac is softer overall while the fit is def better with the harden thanks to the inner sock. Planter fasciitis is pretty easy to spot ..basically if feels like nails when you wake up in the morning.

Hi Schwollo,
Thanks for the review. Would like your input on the sizing, as you know Adidas’ sizing is all over the place…
I wear US9.5 for most Adidas’ bball performance kicks, including Hardens (V2, V3, Rose 1 to 3 etc), and some US10 (Rose 4 onwards, Crazylights). My true measured size is US9.5, and EE width.
For Nikes it’s clear-cut; US9.5 for retros and US10 for most performance kicks including Kobes…
I’ve read so many reviews on the Milleniums (including Dantecamp’s reply to this thread, where even half size down seems to be inadequate. I mean, US11 guys wearing a US9.5 pair?! Goodness Adidas…); do you think I should go TTS at US9.5, or can I go half down to US9, or even full down to US8.5?
Thanks in advance, and keep safe

I think half a size down is good but depends how snug you want it. I’d go 9 for you . If you go Too small you can’t adjust with thicker socks

Hi Schwollo,
I hope you’re doing well despite these crazy times.
This was a great review! I am looking to buy a pair of boost basketball shoes but there are just so many to choose from. I know boost provides comfort, impact protection, and bounciness but to certain levels depending on the shoe. I’ve narrowed down my choices to the harden 3 and these t-mac milleniums. Which shoe provides a bouncier and more fun feel underfoot? I look forward to your reply. Thank you in advance. Keep safe!

Tmac bc it’s thicker overall and boost needs volume.

Speaking of the cushioning what did you mean when you said these didn’t have much energy return but was still springy and fun? Doesn’t springy-ness equate to energy return?
Also, what would you say is your favorite boost basketball sneaker of all time?
