Introducing the Rose 7.5
Seriously, I had a hard time really differentiating the two shoes on court but that’s not a bad thing at all.
Pros: traction, cushioning, fit, support and stabilty, containment
Cons: none really, traction slides a little bit before stopping and isn’t as grippy as the 7 but what grips like the 7 ?
Best for: any position
Sizing: half size down is best for everyone but could be quality control issues (see sizing section)
Buying Advice: zero buzz, generic look, Rose is a starter for now but really a bench player …wait to buy or buy the 7. $90 or less is fair, bottom around $65-75
Weight
Still on the heavy side but doesn’t feel heavy on foot.
Traction
Let’s face it, nothing is going to beat the Rose 7 traction but the Rose 8 puts up a decent fight. It’s grippy over all but does give a tiny bit before stopping even on clean floors. I think the slight sliding might be due to the flatness of the pattern. I prefer the pitbull bite of the 7 but some people may like that little bit of give. Dusty floors requires some wiping where as the 7 pretty much doesn’t need any but overall the traction is still very good.
Cushioning
Really hard time feeling a a difference here. Similar heel to toe drop although the 8 might be a little less. Swapping out the insole helps a lot once again though. Very comfortable out of the box but even better with a better insole. Once again it’s uncaged totally on the medial side while partially caged at the forefoot on the lateral side.
Sizing
Everyone should probably go down half a size.
Here is a comparison of two size 11’s. Granted there are more factors at play than just the actual size but at least you can see the difference. I went with 10.5 (see top pic)
Not sure if it’s Adidas quality control but I had to go down half size from my normal size 11. My foot was swimming in the shoe. It looks like a 11.5 or 12 in my opinion and I had more than a thumb width at the end of the toe box.
Anyways I went down to a 10.5 and they fit more correctly lengthwise (a little more than finger width) and a comfortably width wide even for my wide feet. Pretty much fit like the 7 actually.
Fit
I had no issues with the fit of the 7 although some readers have told me about some issues. I think the generic simple design of the lacing set up will really make a broader set of players feet happy. No straps just a simple standard lacing and ankle collar set up just pulls the ankle back and holds it there. This might be the only realy improvement from the 7. Keep it simple stupid almost always works so just keep it simple stupid Adidas..I mean Adidas.
No movement side to side or front to back with half a size down. Again, best to try on but I think half size down works best for everyone.
Materials
Mostly knit and synthetic although I’m not sure if this counts as a jacquard knit or not. It may be a knit technically but the synthetic portions of the upper can be felt and starts off with a little popping but goes away very quickly. Zero issues with the materials although I’m sure many would prefer Primeknit.
Support and Stability
Always a hallmark of the D Rose line, the 8 strikes a nice balance between support and flexibility. Support is actually there since the ankle collar actually has some strength to it due to a stiff piece right along the Achilles where The D Rose name is. It’s still a nice balance of strength and flexibility though.
There is also nice midfoot support shank you very much.
Stabilty is excellent as always thanks to the wide flat contoured outsole.
Always one of my favorite parts of the Rose line. Keep it going Adidas!
Containment
No issues here
Conclusion
Ever driven a Honda Accord? Start it up and it has that same familiar click shimmy and sound and ride. I’m sure Adidas doesn’t want us to perceive the Rose line as a budget friendly family car but that’s not a bad thing. Although I was a fan of the looks of the the Rose 1-4 I did not enjoy playing in them except the 3. Things didn’t really start clicking for me and the D Rose line on court until the Rose 5. Since the 5, we’ve gotten great cushioning, traction, support and stability, and a reliable fit year over year and the D Rose 8 is no different. Materials aren’t always the best but that’s always been a non issue for me. If you want Primeknit you can either wait it out and see if they release or save some cash and find a Rose 7 Primeknit.
Awesome review. May have to go ahead and pick these up…or try and get a D Rose 7 PK? Happy Thanksgiving too schwollo!

Was waiting for this review to see if I should get the 7 or 8. Looks like you prefer the 7 as it bites harder with traction. Since the 7 is cheaper and has better traction it looks like i’ll be going for that. Thanks for the review as always.

I do prefer the 7 still. Only real “advantage ” was slightly better heel fit that would appeal to those who didn’t get along with the 7.

I ended up getting the 7s which are great, didn’t really experience any toe issues that some pple have commented about. Something interesting things I noticed from reviews of the 8 from other people. Seems like people who reviewed this grey colorway had worse traction then the primarily white and blue model. Not sure if there is an actual difference in the material used but just some food for thought.

Hi Schwollo! Long time lurker here.
1. You mentioned the hard strobel board was an issue with Drose7. I even put double insoles in mine (110 kg here lol). How about Drose8?
2. The outsole looks similar to CLB2016. Do you think the boost feel the same way too? Not to mention the shank is the same one. Also nice shank you pun.
3. Is the lace loops come from one continuous strand/thread/lace? If one break, then all hell break loose? haha
LikeLike
Not an issue just a change from the 6. Same strobel in the 8. Boost does not feel the same as the clb feels like the 7 to me.
Shanks ! Lol
I’m out of town right now but I don’t think it’s one continuous string . I have the ball365 (yes Review coming ) and it is one string but the Rose 8 seems to be independent. Adidas should (better) replace broken eyelets regardless of how it’s designed.

Holy shit ball365 I totally forgot about that. It was debuted mid last year but I saw some play them in China. But I never saw any Adidas pages here in Asia put those up (Maybe Philippines). Now that you mentioned it yeah the lace loops looks the same. Can’t believe I missed that. Thanks man looks forward to that and stay healthy.

Lace loops look the same but the ball365 is one continuous string . Doubtful it will break though . Ok shoe overall but some dumb design flaws imo

Very thorough and informative review once again! I firmly believe that D Rose line still is the top-notch line for Adidas Basketball although the look and the materials of the latest shoe it’s not so premium. I would like though to see the D Rose 8 with a Primeknit upper and with a colour combination that matches with the colours of his new team.

Yep still a great shoe I just prefer the 7 overall. Let’s go giannis!

Schwollo,
How about we compare rose 8 & rose 6? Rose 6 is quite rare right now in the market n i hope rose 8 can subtitute rose 6.
LikeLike
Rose 6 has the most cushioning out of the 6,7,8 traction goes to 7 but 6 bites better than the 8. Slight edge to the 8 for overall fit. The rest is about the same imo.

Great review. Always thanks for your review.
Maybe traction on D Rose 8 with transluent outsole is better than what you tested. It is really awesome. I feel like Adidas transluent outsole shows more reliable performance. How do you think about it?
LikeLike
Actually Drose6 translucent outsole is pretty durable. I put a lot of work on outdoor court on my pair and only like after 6 months they start to show sign of wear. Drose6 outsole has the non-marking engravement on the outsole, so I kinda look out for that whenever possible.

It all depends on the shoe. I did this test a few months ago and translucent was better overall but still sucked on dusty floors
https://schwollo.com/2017/07/07/adidas-traction-test-continental-vs-regular-rubber-harden-translucent-vs-solid/
It def helps with the bite though . Still would take the 7 traction over the 8

Great review, as usual. Couldn’t fall in love with the 7s, I have both versions (mesh and pk) and even tried my pu insoles from my Rose 1.5s on them, to no avail. I wear size 10s and have narrow feet. My feet would smash in the front section of the shoes whenever I had to make a hard stop. Never had the chance to grab a 9.5 (although I think they’d be to tight lengthwise). Ordered a Rose 8 in a size 9.5. Do you think I’ll have the same problems? Thanks!
LikeLike
I think the toe jamming problem might be caused by not being able to fully pull the ankle back. I’d suggest trying to lace them tighter around the ankle and midfoot. Regardless, yes the 8 would be better in this area it is a simpler more effective design.

I’ve tried everything. One of my theories is that the texture of the GeoFit material which is featured in most of the collar ankle area is too smooth…I know it’s kinda crazy but that hinders the lockdown for me. Well, like you said, I hope it goes better in the 8. Thanks for the reply 😉

I think the issue with the toes bangining is that (for me) I could never get it tied tight enough to keep my foot in place, especially at the ankles. That, and the forefoot being too roomy. I tried both versions, used thick aftermarket insoles, and nothing helped.

Go tts and use double sock … it is not the ideal solution but can help alot performance vise

Yes, I tend to do that from time to time to correct some problems lengthwise but I’m all about court feel, so that’s something that bothers me 😦

Well you know I love traction and the hd17 bites better so I’m going with the HD. HD fits a little better rides a little lower which I like as well. Cushioning feel goes to the Rose though.

I tried on the hyperdunk 17′ and it was love at first feel. Likke a virgin engulfing my foot in her canals. I’m gonna order them as soon as my wallet says “OK”! They have just the right impact protection and response for a 190 pounder. It’s like a mix of boost and zoom, with traction, lockdown and sex appeal OMG! Thank you!

In terms of cushioning, which one is the bounciest of the 4? The D rose 6, Jordan Super.fly 3, KD 7, or the hyperrev 2016 ( these are in my local outlets )?
LikeLike
Well not the superfly 3 since it’s forefoot only. Rose 6 feels the almost too soft at times. I’d say HR16 then Kd 7 right behind it. Hope that helps

Nice and practical review! Gotta wait for a year then I’ll cop these when they are within rock bottom prices, as a back up for my drose7. Keep it up man!

also, is the zoom bouncier in the jordan superfly 3 or the kd 9s?

Kd 9 by far

Sorry for so many annoying questions, but i strike with my forefoot waaaay more than my heel. So is the jordan superfly 3 the best out of these options?

No not necessarily. Why limit the premium cushioning to just the forefoot?

i have 2 rose 5 and one rose 6. and took harden vol 1. never had a better fit in my life. ill skip rose 7 and 8 imo.
about the toe box, i think 7 is also long, but its too narrow up there, so you cant really take a number out of it, as it will hurt your width.

Glad the harden fits you well

Hello Schwollo!
Just from watching other reviewers, I’m hearing different things regarding the traction based on the colorway that had been tested. Is there any chance that you may be testing other colorways of this shoe? Perhaps ones with a translucent outsole?

Sorry not at this time. Perfectly happy with the Rose 7 and its traction

Hi Schwollo! So is there a difference in the forefoot between the kd 9s and jordan superfly 3s?

Kd 9’feels better all around . It is full length Zoom full width

Mine finally arrived. Sizing down didn’t work for me as the width of the shoe really hammered my feet. Kinda surprising since I have regular to narrow feet. Will try my regular size 10s. Hopefully I won’t regret it since (like Schwollo said) it’s obviously long on the toe area.

Guess it is just long !

My size 10s finally arrived. You were right, it looks HUGE. But width wise it’s much more bearable now (the shoe is really narrow) and although there’s definitely some room in the toe area, lockdown seems to be a non-issue so I don’t expect my toes to smash on the front side of the shoe when playing. Keep in mind mine is the one with the synthetic upper, so I really couldn’t stay with my 9.5 since there’s no give at all from the material. Maybe the jacquard ones are better in that regard.

My true size had a huge amount of toe box space so that’s why I thought maybe it was a quality control issue. But going down half a size worked so I didn’t bother looking for more. Yea the heel set up is so simple it just works. Let me know how they play for you!

What is our true size? Is looks like a 10. Why did you size down with the Kobe 8? True to size with rose 7 half a size down rose 8 (it runs really big) . Stay away from drop in if you have PF, you usually want a little stiffness underfoot to keep it from overflexing.
