I had no idea that these were coming out but I saw the design and was intrigued. The 2014 Hyperrev was a mixed bag for me. Minimal upper was comfortable but didn’t do a good job of holding my foot in place especially during hard cuts. Traction was very inconsistent, providing good traction some of the time and slippery at others even on the same floor. Full length Zoom Air was the only thing I really liked about the shoe. How will this year’s model stack up?
I bought the Paul George PE colorway since A) I’m a big PG fan B) The other general release colors are pretty ugly.
Gone from the 2014 model is the weird bulky looking cut and in is a Hyperdunkish/hyperfuse hybrid. These look nothing like the 2014 shoe so I don’t even know why they bothered calling these the Hyperrev at all. Hyperdunk 2013 Low anyone? Hyperdunk Zoom Crusader?
Traction:
Traction straight out of the box is great, although not the best I’ve ever worn. Nice, squeaky, fairly pliable rubber is use in a herringbone like pattern to give the shoe consistent coverage and bite. 
Traction does improve over time and is definitely on the better performing traction patterns but you definitely won’t confuse its performance with that of the Kobe IX or Clutchfit Drive. I’d say it plays similar to Hyperdunk 2013’s traction or so. If the Clutchfit and Kobe are a 10, these are an 8.5 to 9.Cushioning:
Finishline lists these as full length Zoom while Nike.Com says it is targeted and I can definitely tell it is targeted.
It does not have that perfectly smooth, seamless transition like the Hyperrev 2014 but it does have some good bounce back and response. I’m pleased to say this feels like REAL ZOOM AIR, not that garbage that Nike calls Zoom Air but feels dead. It feels very similar to the Kobe VI which is a good thing. Actually the entire shoe reminds of the Kobe VI but with a slightly wider base. The forefoot Zoom feels larger than the Kobe VI’s met bag but I’m not 100% sure since I didn’t cut it open.
FIT:
These fit true to size for me, which is my standard sz 11. For reference, I wear an 11 in all Kobes except I-III and an 11 in all Lebrons except IX, which I need an 11.5. Surprisingly, I experienced ZERO heel slip in these and I know it is due to the little notches they put in the heel to surround the achilles as well as the heel counter extending all the way around into the top lace loops ala the Air Jordan IV. This worked well on the AJ IV back and 1989 and its pretty cool to see Nike bring the idea back and have work it even better with a more flexible plastic.
If the notches weren’t there my heel wouldn’t have slipped like they always do in lows but thanksfully Nike made a tiny adjustment and it works wonders. Width wise, the shoe fit perfectly for me and I’m a wide footer. I believe the great width fit was due to the flexible mesh upper and flywire.
Another reason I enjoyed the fit of this shoe was that there was no separate tongue; the shoe is basically a neoprene sock with an extra some mesh for support (and lace holes). The sensation of wearing the Hyperrev 2015 reminds of wearing an Aquasock since it seamless without a tongue.
The Lebron XII tried to implement this idea but unlike the Lebron XII, there isn’t any bunching when you lace the Hyperrev up and the tongue sits perfectly on top of your foot.
Support:
Like the Hyperrev 2014, most of the support comes from the wider midsole/sole. The upper is minimal and flexible with a plastic heel counter. It isn’t anywhere close to as stiff as the Kyrie I’s heel counter ..actually it isn’t even as stiff as the Kobe VI’s heel counter but it does its job perfectly well.
Nike also extended the sole up above the midsole at the forefoot to as well as t from sliding side to side and it works really well. The 2014 Hyperrev didn’t have any top of support like this to keep the foot from slipping out of the shoe on hard cuts.
Last years model was horrible when cutting side to side since there was nothing holding the foot in place other than individual flywire strands that did not actually run through any lace loops. The only thing holding the foot in place was the mesh upper and Flywire which sat on top of a totally flat midsole (no bucket effect). Flywire cannot hold the foot in place on its own and needs to be laced through a larger piece of support/upper. This year they changed that and ran the laces through flywire AND the laceloops to really lock the foot down and provide support for side to side movements. As you can see below the first two lace loops do not run through the overlay just the flywire.
Flywire IMO is just a way to add some more color to their shoes and little else. Ask the hundreds of people shoe have had their flywire ripped in their Hyperdunks if they could tell a difference….
The sole of the Hyperrev 2015 is very flat and this passed my heel test with flying colors. No tendency at all to tip over when stepping on the heel which is a big plus in my book. It felt so much more stable than the Kobe VI even though it was just barely wider at the heel.
Conclusion:
I’d call these the Hyperdunk 2013 lows rather than the Hyperrev 2015 bc they took so many facets of the Hyperdunk to improve the Hyperrev name. They even look like them Pete’s sake.. I feel these are one of Nike’s best efforts in some time with real Zoom Air that you can actually feel, great traction, a super comfortable breathable upper all on top of a stable base that feels very natural underfoot. Quality was top notch with no extra glue spots or unsightly stitching. At $129, this by far outperforms shoes like the Kyrie I (although its only 110) as well as the Hyperdunk 2014. Even as a mid/high guy, I really love playing in these.

Great review! The Kobe 6, along with the Kobe 5, Lebron 8, and Jordan xx8, is in my opinion the best performing basketball shoe to date. Just from reading your review you seem to have a great knowledge about your basketball performance footwear. To compare these to the Kobe 6s is a great compliment for a non signature shoe. Traction, fit, and cushioning are at the top of my list and from your review these are perfect for me. Last year’s model had horrible traction so I’m glad to hear that these have been improved. A lot of people have been telling me to try the zoom run the one. They compare it to the Kobe 5s which is blasphemous to me considering their traction pattern looks suspect (same as the crusaders) and there is no heel zoom. Do you have any opinions or input? If those are like the 5s and these are like the 6s then I have some shopping to do lol Finally, what’s your height and weight along with your playing style? I am a slasher standing at 5’10”, 170lbs.

Playing style and size . 5’10 ,178 . I usually play the 1 or 2 and am more a slasher than shooter although it depends what we need so very similar to you . Had to choose Btwn tennis and bball in high school went on to play semester college tennis . I mention this bc I need shoes that keep me locked in esp side to side (like tennis movements) .
Like you traction most important, then fit, then cushion , support . Top five of all time . Clutchfit drive, kobe I, kobe iv, soldier vi, 2k5 (2k4 had a sloppy forefoot fit ). Rose 5 making a good case for top 5 though .

Hahahha thanks for the kind words ! the 2015 rev is way better than last years bc they added support to keep the foot in place and the bootie set up makes them feel like a glove. The run the one is nothing like the kobe v imo and if you loved the kobe vi, xx8 and lebron 8 you’ll hate them. They feel kind of like the Kobe iv bc the cushioning is firm but traction isn’t nearly as good . If the Kobe v and vi had the traction of the iv I could have stopped buying shoess.I love the kobe vi but I wanted better traction so they never made my rotation. Same with the lebron 8. (But boy was it luxurious feeling ). Xx8 feels amazing but sits a little high although I got used to it and haven’t popped the zoom yet . Eastbay has the rev2015 now and not excluded from coupons so roughly 103 bucks.

I agree with you on the 4s. I felt the fit on the 5s and 6s were better though. More of a 1 to 1 feel. I’ve been debating on getting the drose 5s. I imagine they’re a lighter, lower, and more responsive lebron 8. How is the traction of the rose 5s compared to the hyperev 2015 and if you had to choose a go to shoe between the rose 5 and hyperrev 2015, which one would you choose?

That’s a good description of the Rose 5. Very supportive , boost is awesome but much lower to the ground than the lebron 8. Traction is easily better than the Hyperrev . Fit was excellent for me as well. There was some dead space in the toe box but the alternate away and home colorways do fit better than those Brenda/l train in the forefoot . No movement side to side either. Eastbay dropped prices 30 bucks (with 20% off that’s about 87 bucks )and they will continue to drop so Id pick up on sale later. Adidas outlets will get these soon too and we all know that means sub 70 prices . It does depend on if you want the mobility of a low vs all the good things the Rose 5 does. I personally like the Rose 5 more bc I like the traction and boost more than the rev 2015 but both are great

Thanks for all your help! I’m very impressed with your basketball performance footwear knowledge. You and this guy over at the gymrat review are guys I look forward to reading from now a days. Nightwing2303, KickGenius, and FoamerSimpson have been great for me as well, but sometimes I question their reviews as of late. They’re not as underground and ‘organic’ as they once were. Nothing wrong with the recognition and sponsorship at all. I’m proud to have watched them since back then before the noteriety. Still a big fan, but I appreciate the ‘everyman’ perspective on performance footwear without the pressures from sponsorships or brands. Thank you for all your hard work!

Btw Kyrie 1 is just an average shoe if it was on your radar .

I tried the kyrie 1 on and it felt really stiff so I passed. I wasn’t really impressed. I got love for foamer, nightwing2303, and kg. I guess i just wanted a different point of view. Why don’t you like kg? I love Brian from counterkicks too. All these years I didn’t know he was Duke on Niketalk. Looking forward to more reviews from you. Are you on the Jordan xx9 train as well? It seems like the consensus top performer.

Kyrie 1 is pretty junky. Paying really for a low end shoe with a premium for the name/player. It does break in bit but still not great. To me kg is 90% dribbling drills and 10% review plus inconsistent reviews . For example they called the crazy light boost the best adidas shoe to date (which consensus was it was not and the rose 5 was trash althouhh they only disliked the upper material )

Not paying 225 for a shoe im going to destroy and it doesnt have zoom in heel. Dont care for woven uppers at this time either (plus they rip). Not worth the $ to me.

Depends what you want. Kd 8 is very stable low top while hyperrev is more “free” feeling and way cheaper too. I prefer the kd 8 more bc I like the support and stability plus full length Zoom but thsts just me

My feet are size 12 lengthwise but widthwise i think its 12.5-13. Should i go half size up, whole size up, or just stay TTS?

What do you typically do with your shoes ? What are you wearing now? I have wide feet and I stayed TTS but everyone has different preferences

Better go half a size up if you have wide feet.
The shoe is very tight, but it looks long and it is slightly big length wise, so I wouldn’t go a full size up. I have normal feet and went TTS.
